Daniel Ona Ondo is new PM

President Ali Bongo Ondimba has appointed a new Prime Minister, Daniel Ona Ondo, who replaces Raymond Ndong Sima who had held the post since February 2012.

Daniel Ona Ondo (68), an economist and adviser to former President Omar Bongo before entering politics was Dean of the Faculty of Economics and President of the University Omar Bongo (UOB). He was elected to the National Assembly in 1996. He has served as Minister of Culture, Arts, Popular Education, Youth, and Sports and Minister of National Education. In 2007 he was elected First Vice-President of the National Assembly, a post he held until yesterday’s announcement.

The new Prime Minister said that he will name a new Cabinet next week.
