Defence Minister confirmed as new Crown Prince

Prince Salman bin Abdulaziz the current Defence Minister has been named by King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz al Saud as the new Crown Prince. He replaces Crown Prince Nayef who died suddenly last week. He will retain his defence portfolio and has been made Deputy Prime Minister.

Crown Prince Salman (76) was Defence Minister from November 2011, prior to that he was the Governor of Riyadh from 1963 to 2011 during which time he oversaw the growth of the capital grow from a small town into the major urban metropolis it is today.

Prince Ahmed bin Abdulaziz (70) has been named as the new Interior Minister. He was formerly the deputy interior minister since 1975.
