Defence Minister impeached

Published

Iraq’s Defence Minister, Khaled al-Obeidi, has been impeached by the country’s parliament. The vote, which took place yesterday follows questioning earlier this month over corruption allegations. The vote was won by 142 votes to 102.

Khaled al-Obeidi has been in office since October 2014 and will now have to be replaced just months before a major attack planned against the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL) in their stronghold of Mosul.
