Defence Secretary resigns

Published

Following a week of revelations involving alleged breach of the ministerial code and the conduct of a close friend, Secretary of State for Defence, Dr Liam Fox, resigned late yesterday afternoon.

Prime Minister David Cameron was very quick to replace him with Transport Secretary Philip Hammond. Hammond has experience in the shadow treasury team and may have been sent to Defence to sort out their budgetary problems.

Justine Greening has replaced Hammond as Secretary of State for Transport.

Chloe Smith has replaced Greening as Economic Secretary to the Treasury.
