Dichter becomes new Minister for the Home Front

In a previously announced move, Avi Dichter, the former head of Shin Bet the Israeli security agency has become the new Minister for the Home Front.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made the announcement yesterday after Mr Dichter had resigned from his party, the main opposition Kadima Party in order to join the government. The current home front minister, Matan Vilnai, is Israel’s new ambassador to China.

Mr Dichter (59) in several announcements said that he was putting partisan politics aside to serve his country. He served with the prime minister in the Israeli elite armed forces brigade known as Sayeret Matkal and the two are known to be friends. Mr Dichter was previously Minister of Internal Security.
