DPM stands down in land scandal

Prime Minister Dean Barrow of Belize has announced that he has accepted the resignation of Deputy Prime Minister Gaspar Vega. He was also the Minister for Agriculture, Fisheries, Forestry, the Environment and Sustainable Development

The DPM is reported to have signed titles to land which did not belong to the government. The minister says he signed papers for two parcels of land in good faith and believeing that everything was in order. However, the minister’s son was the recipient of the land and in the circumstances he felt it correct to resign his portfolio.
