Economic Planning and Development Minister resigns

The Minister of Economic Planning and Development, Austin Atupele Muluzi, has resigned his position to stand as a presidential candidate for the opposition United Democratic Front (UDF). He also cites remarks made against him as a minister by other members of the government which have undermined his position.

The minister had joined President Joyce Banda’s government as part of her effort to reach out across the parties in parliament following the death earlier this year of President Bingu wa Mutharika.

No successor has yet been named.
