Energy Minister stands down

Indonesian President, Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono, has accepted the resignation of his Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources, Jero Wacik.

Wacik has been named as an extortion suspect by the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK). He is the third minister in President Yudhoyono’s Cabinet to be suspected in a corruption scandal.

A new minister has yet to be named but he or she will only be in office for six weeks as the President-elect Joko Widodo will be sworn in on 20th October and will bring in a new Cabinet.
