Energy Secretary resigns

Published

Cabinet minister Chris Huhne has resigned his position after learning that he is to be charged with perverting the course of justice. Mr Huhne is alleged to have forced his now estranged wife, Vicky Pryce, to take driving licence penalty points on his behalf; he denies the allegations.

Mr Huhne was the Secretary of State for Energy and Climate Change and is a member of the Liberal Democrat Party, the junior party in the Conservative led coalition government.

Huhne is to be replaced by Ed Davey who is currently the Minister for Employment Relations, Consumer and Postal Affairs and a fellow Liberal Democrat.
