Published

German Chancellor, Angela Merkel, has dismissed her environment minister, Norbert Roettgen. The new Federal Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety will be Peter Altmaier.

Altmaier (54) has been a member of the Bundestag since 1994 and since 2005 has been Parliamentary Secretary in the Ministry of the Interior.

Roettgen was the CDU’s party Chairman in North Rhine Westphalia where Merkel’s party suffered a humiliating setback in elections on Sunday.
