FM nominated for PM

Published

President Michel Martelly has nominated Foreign Minister Laurent Lamothe as the next prime minister for Haiti.

The nomination will have to go before parliament and there is expected to be a lot of hassle before the nomination is accepted. The previous prime minister resigned last week because of difficulties within the government and two previous candidates were rejected by the parliament.

The parliament is controlled by the opposition following controversial presidential and legislative elections last year.
