Foreign Minister Teodor Baconschi has been sacked by Prime Minister Emil Boc.

The move came following remarks made by the foreign minister about anti-government protesters. The foreign minister is reported to have described the protesters as “inept and violent slum dwellers”.

The protesters are angry with the government because of austerity measures designed to control government overspending which include cutting civil servants pay by a quarter and the raising of a sales tax rates.
