Foreign Minister dismissed

Published

President Salva Kiir has dismissed his Foreign Minister Dr Barnaba Marial Benjamin.

Barnaba Marial was out of the country at the time of the dismissal and local rumours say that the sacking may be linked to a controversy of the payment of more than half a million dollars to the minister in December last year. Other sources say that the dismissal may be linked to a statement by the Foreign Minister saying that prominent Abyei-born academic Luka Biong was not South Sudanese but Sudanese. Presidential decree 169 gave no reason for the decision and did not indicate a replacement.
