Former interim PM asked to lead country once more

Published

Abdurrahman El Kib who was the interim prime minister up until last month has been asked to take on the task once more by the National Congress. Earlier this month the parliament elected Mustafa Abushagur to lead the country but first he failed to meet the deadline for selecting a Cabinet and then the final choice of names for the Cabinet was unacceptable. As a result the prime minister elect was dismissed by the parliament and until yesterday a vacancy had existed.

The measure is, however, a temporary arrangement and the National Congress will have to find a mechanism to select a new prime minister to lead the country forward.

A letter was read out during a televised session of the National Congress, according to the Tripoli Post, in which El Kib and his caretaker government were requested to prepare a budget for 2013 and hold a national security council meeting.
