Four new ministers proposed

Published

The Islamic Republic News Agency (IRNA) has announced that President Mahmoud Ahmedinejad has submitted four names to parliament to cover four ministerial roles.

The proposed ministers are:

Rostam Qasemi to be the new Oil Minister
Abdorreza Sheikholeslami for Labour, Cooperatives and Social Welfare Minister
Mehdi Ghazanfari to be the new Minister for Industry, Mines and Trade
Mohammad Abbasi to become Minister for Sports and Youth.

Qasemi is a senior Revolutionary Guards commander. He heads the Khatam al-Anbia construction base, an engineering and construction company controlled by the Revolutionary Guards. His appointment is seen as a way for the president to mend fences with the Revolutionary Guard after a number of months of internal strife which has seen strained relations between the two sides.

Parliament will vote on the new ministers on Sunday.
