Published

Manuel Roxas, Philippines’ Secretary of the Interior and Local Government, has resigned his post in order to run in next year’s presidential election. He has been replaced by Mel Senen Sarmiento.

Manuel (Mar) Roxas was endorsed by the incumbent president, Benigno Aquino III, as his replacement back in late July. The election is due to be held in July 2016 and contenders have to register by mid-October this year. Aquino is not entitled to stand for a second term under the constitution.
