Interior Minister tenders resignation

Lithuania’s Minister of the Interior, Saulius Skvernelis, has resigned his portfolio after a number of embarrassing incidents involving agencies under his scrutiny.

The latest incident involved the theft of an automatic rifle from a police car which led to a manhunt involving more than 3,000 police personnel.

Prime Minister Algirdas Butkevičius of the Social Democratic Party (LSDP) has yet to decide if he will accept the resignation from Saulius Skvernelis who comes from the junior coalition partner Order and Justice (TT).
