Julio César Gandarilla is new Interior Minister

Periódico Granma, the official newspaper of the Cuban Communist Party has announced that Vice-Admiral Julio César Gandarilla Bermejo has been appointed as the new Minister of the Interior. He replaces Fernando Godin (78) who died after a ‘chronic illness’ on Saturday.

Gandarilla was the Deputy Interior Minister, a member of the Central Committee of the Party and Deputy to the National Assembly. He has served in various roles in the Revolutionary Armed Forces to become Head of the Military Counter-Intelligence Directorate, a post he has held for the past 16 years.
