King appoints Semisi Sika as Minister of Infrastructure and Tourism

King Tupou VI has appointed Semisi Sika as Minister of Infrastructure and Tourism. He replaces Etuate Lavulavu who lost his seat in February after he was found guilty of conspiracy to commit bribery during the 2014 general election campaign.

Semisi Sika (48) is a member of the Democratic Party of the Friendly Islands was elected to parliament in 2010. Matangi Tonga Online reports that the new minister ‘is a graduate of Brigham Young University in Hawaii holding a Bachelor of Science degree in Business/Travel Management’. He runs a small business, is Director of Heilala Festival and is President of the Tonga Rugby League.
