Kolo Christophe Laurent Roger named Prime Minister

President Hery Martial Rajaonarimampianina has named Kolo Christophe Laurent Roger after two months of consultations with political parties. Eleven parties are reported to have approved of the new prime minister.

Kolo Christophe Laurent Roger (70) is a radiologist. He attended the Medical School of Antananarivo (1970 – 1977), the Faculty of Medicine of Strasbourg University (1978 – 1980) and also has a degree in medicine from the University Hospital of Geneva. He went on to spend much of his professional career in Geneva and he is a Member of the French Society of Radiology and the Swiss Society of Radiology. Kolo returned to Madagascar last year.

Having the support of most of the political parties the first job of the prime minister will be to form a Cabinet and start the reconciliation process in the country. President Rajaonarimampianina will also be hoping that the appointment will trigger funding support from the International Monetary Fund (IMF).
