Brazil

Luiz Alberto Figueiredo is new Minister of External Relations

Published

Minister for External Relations, Antonio Patriota, has resigned after one of his diplomats helped a Bolivian Senator to escape the country. The Senator, Roger Pinto, had accused the Bolivian government of President Evo Morales of having links to drug traffickers and had been holed up in the Brazilian Embassy for the last 15 months before escaping the country with the help of the Brazilian diplomat last weekend.

Patriota has been appointed as Brazil’s new Ambassador to the United Nations and the current ambassador there, Luiz Alberto Figueiredo, is to become the new Minister of Foreign Relations.

Meanwhile President Evo Morales is furious over the incident and Bolivia is now seeking the extradition of Senator Pinto from Brazil.
