Merkel forced into minor cabinet reshuffle

German Chancellor, Angela, Merkel, was forced into a cabinet reshuffle when her Defence Minister Karl-Theodor zu Guttenberg, was forced to resign over accusations of plagiarism in his doctorate thesis.

He has been replaced by Thomas de Maiziere who was the Interior Minister. The new Interior Minister is Hans-Peter Friedrich, the parliamentary leader of the Christian Social Union (CSU) a coalition partner of Merkel’s Christian Democrat Union (CDU).
