Published

President Nicolás Maduro has announced changes to his ministerial team.

The new Minister of Interior, Justice and Peace is Nestor Reverol, a General who has been named by the United States as being implicated in drug crimes in the U.S. Reverol previously held the post under former president Hugo Chavez.

Carlos Faria has been named as the new Minister of Industry and Trade and Ricardo Molina is the new Minister of Transport and Public Works and vice president of Territorial Socialism.

The move comes a day after the electoral commission announced that The Democratic Unity Roundtable (MUD) opposition had reached the 1% of the electorate required in their petition to force a recall vote on the president. No date has been given for the next stage in which the opposition must gather enough signatures to exceed the 7,587,579 votes Maduro received in the April 2013 presidential election within a four day period.
