Minor reshuffle strengthens EU talks

Published

Prime Minister Jóhanna Sigurðardóttir has appointed Oddný Harðardóttir as the new Finance Minister in a minor Cabinet reshuffle.

Harðardóttir replaces Steingrímur Sigfússon who has held the post of Finance Minister since 2009. He now moves to become the new Economics Minister as well as Minister for Fisheries and Agriculture.

Jón Bjarnason who was the Fisheries and Agriculture Minister has left the Cabinet. He was an outspoken critic of moves by the government to seek entry into the European Union (EU). The Cabinet reshuffle should strengthen the position of the prime minister in her talks with the EU.
