South Korea

Published

President Park Geun-hye has nominated Moon Chang-geuk, a former journalist, as her latest choice for Prime Minister. Prime Minister Chung Hong-won stepped down on 27th April following the sinking of a passenger ferry, 6,825-ton MV Sewol. He was to be replaced by Ahn Dae-hee, but he had to stand down following intense questioning of his financial affairs by parliament, so Moon is her latest effort to get a new Prime Minister in place.

The president also nominated South Korea’s Ambassador to Japan, Lee Byung-kee, as her new Chief of the National Intelligence Service. His nomination also has to go before parliament.
