Najib Razak shuffles Cabinet


Prime Minister Najib Razak has carried out a reshuffle of his Cabinet. A major loser in the reshuffle is Muhyiddin Yassin, Deputy President of the United Malays National Organisation, the ruling coalition in Malaysia.

Muhyiddin Yassin had become increasingly vocal in asking the Prime Minister to stand down from the 1Malaysia Development Berhad (1MDB), a government investment fund which was established by Najib in 2008. The Prime Minister has come under increasing pressure after the fund was reported to have made major losses of up to $11 billion and last month the Wall Street Journal made allegations that $700 million had been transferred from 1MDB to bank accounts under Najib’s name. A subsequent investigation into the allegations has been frozen.
