New Agriculture Minister

Published

Prime Minister Donald Tusk has appointed Stanislaw Kalemba as the new Minister of Agriculture. He replaces Marek Sawicki who was forced to resign earlier this month over a corruption scandal.

Mr Kalemba (65) is a member of the Polish People’s Party (PSL) the junior coalition member and has been a member of parliament since 1991. He has been critical of the government in his role as chairman of the parliament’s agriculture committee and is not considered to be a favourite replacement for Mr Tusk. Mr Kalemba’s son works in the Agricultural Market Agency (ARR) which comes under the control of the agriculture ministry which could create a conflict of interest.
