New Cabinet named in transfer of power

Cape Verde has witnessed a peaceful handover of power when the Movement for Democracy (MpD) led by Ulisses Correia e Silva took over from the African Party for Independence in Cape Verde (PAICV) which has been in power for the past fifteen years. The formal inauguration of the government will take place on 22nd June.

The new Prime Minister has named a twelve member Cabinet as follows:

José Ulisses Correia e Silva Prime Minister and Minister of State Reform, Decentralisation and Regionalisation
Fernando Elísio Freire Minister of the Presidency, Parliamentary Affairs and Sports
Olavo Correia Minister of Finance and Public Administration
Janine Lélis Minister of Justice and Labour
Abraão Vicente Minister of Culture and Creative Industries
Luís Filipe Tavares Minister Foreign Affairs and Communities and Minister of Defence
Eunice Silva Minister for Infrastructure, Planning and Housing
José Gonçalves Minister of Economy and Employment
Paulo Rocha Minister of Interior
Gilberto Silva Minister of Agriculture and Environment
Arlindo do Rosário Minister of Health and Social Security
Maritza Rosabal Minister for Education, Family, and Social Inclusion
