New Comms Minister as Tourism Minister leaves

Published

Tourism Minister Wilhelm von Breymann has tendered his resignation to President Luis Guillermo Solís. The reason given was for personal reasons but the Minister had come in for a lot of criticism from the tourism industry in the past few months. According to Entorno Inteligente, last month the President of the National Chamber of Tourism (Canatur) had stated that ‘the minister had not exercised the command expected by the sector in policy advocacy that harmed the development of the industry’.

Meanwhile the President has re-instated the Communications portfolio which had been dropped by him at the start of his Presidency. The new Minister of Communications will be Mauricio Herrera Ulloa and he will take up his appointment on 1st May.

Mauricio Herrera was, until Tuesday, the Director and Editor-in-Chief of the Semanario Universidad of the University of Costa Rica (UCR). He was previously a journalist for the newspaper La Nación and also Rapporteur for Freedom of Expression of the Inter-American Court of Human Rights (IACHR) as well as the Organisation of American States.
