New Education minister

President Vaclav Klaus has appointed a new education minister to replace Josef Dobes of the Public Affairs Party (VV) who resigned in late March. Public Affairs are no longer part of the government coalition although individual members have remained.

The new Minister for Education, Youth and Sport will be Professor Petr Fiala. The new minister, aged 47, is a political scientists and Vice Rector of the Mararyk University in Brno. He was made chief scientific adviser to Prime Minister Petr Necas in September 2011. He has no political affiliation.
