New Foreign Minister

President Nursultan Nazarbayev has appointed 53 year old Yerlan Idrissov as his new Minister of Foreign Affairs. He replaces Yerzhan Kazykhanov who has been appointed an assistant to the president.

According to Kazakh TV, Yerlan Idrissov is a graduate of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations and the Diplomatic Academy of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Prior to his new appointment, he held various positions in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Kazakhstan. He also worked in the Kazakhstan permanent mission at the UN, as well as the Embassy of Kazakhstan in India, UK and the USA.
