New Home Minister announced

President Park Geun-hye has appointed, subject to parliamentary confirmation, Kang Byung-kyu to be her new Minister of Home Affairs. He replaces Yoo Jeong-bok who has resigned to stand as Mayor of Incheon in the local elections scheduled for 4th June.

Kang Byung-kyu was second vice minister from 2009-2010 and is described as a technocrat. The Korean Herald says that Kang served as Deputy Mayor of the south-eastern cities of Daegu and Gyeongsan and since 2011 he has headed up the Korea Institute of Local Finance.
