New PM

Published

Emir Sheikh Sabah al-Ahmad al-Sabah has appointed Defence Minister Sheikh Jaber Mubarak al-Sabah as the new prime minister and asked him to appoint a new Cabinet. The new Cabinet will be the eighth since February 2006.

Although the current parliament is not due for re-election until May 2013, the speculation is that the current political turmoil will lead to fresh elections being announced soon. The 50 seat National Assembly was last elected in May 2009.
