New PM confirmed

Haiti’s parliament has confirmed the appointment of Laurent Lamothe as the new prime minister. His predecessor, Garry Conille, resigned in February having lasted just four months in the job.

On 10th April the Senate passed the prime minister designates application by 19 votes to three. On 3rd May the House of Deputies also passed his appointment by 62 votes to three.

Mr Lamothe (39) has a Masters degree in business development and is a founder of the telecommunications giant Global Voice Group. He was appointed as Minister of Foreign Affairs in October 2011.
