New power struggle as ministers are sacked

Published

Power struggles have emerged in the government of Bosnia and Herzegovina once more after taking more than a year to form a government.

Yesterday the House of Peoples of the Parliamentary Assembly of BiH voted to dismiss Minister of Defence, Muhamed Ibrahimović and Minister of Security, BiH, Sadik Ahmetović along with Deputy Minister of Finance and Treasury Fuad Kasumovic. All three are members of the Party of Democratic Action (SDA) a Bosniak party. The move was apparently initiated by the Social Democratic Party (SDP).

There are also moves to replace Minister of Foreign Affairs, Zlatko Lagumdzija, the leader of the SDP. The vote on this matter will take place today.

The changes will trigger a likely complete Cabinet reshuffle and may also lead to further infighting between the parties currently involved in the coalition government as a power war is played out.
