Published

President Mikheil Saakashvili has appointed Minister of the Interior, Vano Merabishvili as his new prime minister.

The new prime minister has been tasked with reducing the current 16% unemployment whilst also implementing agricultural and healthcare reforms.

Georgia is due to hold a general election in October this year and opinion polls suggest that Saakashvili’s United National Movement (ENM or UNM) is being contested by a coalition of opposition parties, the Georgian Dream Alliance.
