Omar Daudzai appointed acting Minister of Interior

President Hamid Karzai has appointed a close associate and current Afghan Ambassador to Pakistan, Omar Daudzai (55), as his acting Interior Minister. The appointment has to be approved by the Afghan parliament.

Omar Daudzai is reported as having expressed interest in standing in the presidential election which will take place on 5th April 2014. Karzai is not permitted to run for a third term and has said that he will not back any candidate. The new position for Daudzai is high profile; he is from the Pashtun ethnic group.
