Papoutsis resigns from Cabinet

Minister for Citizen’s Protection, Christos Papoutsis has resigned from the Greek Cabinet in readiness to fight the Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) leadership contest.

The frontrunner for the leadership position, which was vacated by former prime minister George Papandreou is the current Finance Minister, Evangelos Venizelos.

Nominations will be put forward at the party’s national council meeting on 4th March with the election expected to be on 18th March.
