Parliament elects Bidzina Ivanishvili as Prime Minister

Bidzina Ivanishvili was voted in as the new Prime Minister of Georgia yesterday. The Parliament also approved his list of Cabinet ministers (see previous story with full list of the Cabinet) by 88 votes to 54.

The new government has laid out a number of changes they intend to make 25 areas including reforms of the prosecutor’s office, law enforcement agency, education, foreign relations, the Ministry of Interior, economic politics, pensions and social protection.

In his acceptance speech Mr Ivanishvili said that the new government would continue the policy of the former government to seek membership of the European Union and NATO but would also rebuild ties with Russia.
