Published

President Laura Chinchilla has carried out a partial Cabinet reshuffle.

The president has appointed René Castro, formerly the Foreign Minister, as the new Minister for the Environment, Energy and Telecommunications.

The current Ambassador to the Organization of American States, Enrique Castillo, will take up his new role as Foreign Minister from 5th September.

The president also has to fill a vacancy in the Health Ministry after incumbent minister Maria Luisa Ávila resigned following differences over the funding arrangements of the Caja Costarricense de Seguro Social (CCSS), Costa Rica’s health and social security system.
