President Hassan Sheikh Mohamoud has named Abdi Farah Shirdon Saaid as his new prime minister.

The new prime minister is an unknown other than he is reported to be above clan rivalries and of solid integrity. However, it does mean that two relatively unknown and untested people are now running the country.

The new prime minister has an economics degree from the Somali National University and worked as an economist in the Ministry of Finance and Ministry of Agriculture during the 1980s. In 1991 he moved to Kenya where he ran an export/import business. He is married to Asha Haji Elmi, a prominent peace activist and herself a member of the Federal Parliament of Somalia according to a report by Reuters.

The first job of the new prime minister will be to assemble a Cabinet.
