PM takes on Fin Min role

Published

Prime Minister Manmohan Singh has taken on the additional role of Finance Minister following the resignation yesterday of Pranab Mukherjee so that he can stand for the post of President.

Manmohan Singh was the highly successful Finance Minister between 1991 and 1996 when he was seen to kick start the modernisation of India’s economy. Many will be hoping that he can turn the ailing economy around once more.

Meanwhile the prime minister has also appointed Minister for Science and Technology, Vilasrao Deshmukh, to take on the additional role of Minister of Small, Micro and Medium Industries after the resignation yesterday of Virbhadra Singh.
