President appoints new Energy Minister and CB Governor

Sierra Leone’s Parliament has approved three Presidential appointees for positions within the Ministry of Energy and Power.

President Ernest Bai Koroma appointed Ambassador Henry Macauley to the post of Minister of Energy on 5th July subject to pending parliamentary approval.

Major Ismail Koroma has been appointed Deputy Minister Of Energy I responsible for Distribution And Supply and Mr. Hassan Barrie has been appointed Deputy Minister Of Energy II responsible for Generation And Transmission.

The President sacked Energy Minister Oluniyi Robbin-Coker and his deputy in February apparently for corruption. According to Bloomberg, Sierra Leone generates about 96 megawatts and has an energy deficit of about 200 megawatts.

The President also appointed Mr. Momodu Kargbo as the new Governor of the Bank of Sierra Leone and Dr. Ibrahim Stevens as Deputy Governor.
