President Aziz appoints Yahya Ould Hademine as new Prime Minister

President Mohamed Ould Abdel Aziz of Mauritania has named Yahya Ould Hademine as his new Prime Minister.

The President was re-elected on 21st June and has now started a complete reshuffle of his Ministerial team. Yahya Ould Hademine replaces Moulaye Ould Mohamed Laghdaf who has been Prime Minister since August 2008.

Yahya Ould Hademine (60) has a degree in Metallurgical Engineering from the Polytechnic School of Montreal. In 1979 he became Head of Department of an operating steel mill in the National Industrial and Mining Company (SNIM). From 1985 to 1988 he was of Head of Department purchases for SNIM and in 1989, he became CEO of SAFA (A subsidiary of SNIM) before taking up the post of Director General of SMTA (Also a subsidiary of SNIM).

He was appointed Minister of Equipment and Transport in December 2010.
