President Benigno Aquino III names Jericho Petilla as new Energy Minister

The current governor of Leyte province, Jericho Petilla has been named by President Benigno Aquino III as the new Secretary of Energy, replacing Jose Rene Almendras who is to become Secretary to the Cabinet.

Jericho “Icot” Petilla (49) has a BSc. In Management Engineering from Ateneo de Manila University where subsequently he was a professor. In 2004 he was elected as Governor of Leyte province in central Philippines and is currently completing his third and final term of office. Petilla has been a consultant to Meralco, Security Bank, and Philippine Phosphate Fertilizer Corp. He is married with five children and is believed to be a member of the president’s Liberal party of the Philippines.
