President dismisses defence minister

President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita has dismissed his Minister of Defence and Veterans Affairs, Tieman Hubert Coulibaly, after members of the Ansar Dine group took control of the village of Boni in central Mali on Friday. Coulibaly is to be replaced by Abdoulaye Idrissa Maïga, a former Minister of Territorial Administration. Mohamed Ag Erlaf becomes the Minister of Territorial Administration and Decentralization.

Malian troops have been plagued by a series of attacks in recent months by groups such as Ansar Dine a militant Islamist group which is believed to have close ties to Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb.
