President dismisses Interior Minister

Published

President Alpha Condé has issued a decree dismissing Interior Minister Mahmoud Cissé, Secretary General for Religious Affairs El Hadj Abdoulaye Diassy and his deputy Elhadj Aboubacar Fofana apparently for serious misconduct and gross negligence.

No reason was given for the dismissals but it is believed to be linked to violence last week at Touba, a Muslim pilgrimage site. Guinee News reported that two people were killed and a number of buildings and vehicles were torched when rival groups clashed over the building of a new mosque in the city.
