President Ouattara dissolves Cabinet

Published

President Alassane Ouattara has dissolved his 36 member Cabinet following a dispute between the coalition parties over a new law being presented to the National Assembly.

The new Marriage Law would change the status of head of the household by making wives and husbands equal heads of the household. The vote in the National Assembly was not supported by two of the coalition partners, the Rally of Houphouetists for Democracy and peace (RHDP) and the Union for Democracy and Peace of Côte ‘D’Ivoire (UDPC). President Ouattara’s party, the Rally of the Republicans (RDR), supported the move.

No timescale has been given for the formation of a new government.
