President Resigns

President Marcus Stephen has resigned following allegations of corruption. An opposition member is reported as having read out an email in parliament purporting to come from the president which asks for a ‘kickback’ from a Thai phosphate dealer.

The president, who has been in place since 2007, will be replaced by Freddie Pitcher the former minister of commerce and the environment.
