President submits list of first Cabinet names

Published

Four months after being sworn into office President Muhammadu Buhari has submitted a list of 21 names for his Cabinet to parliament. However, the list was submitted so late that the Senate was adjourned until next Tuesday. The This Day newspaper reports that a further 16 names will be submitted soon.

The full list has not, as yet, been published but each person will be subject to parliamentary scrutiny. There are no appointments to specific ministries, which will come after parliament has approved (or otherwise) the names on the list.

Whilst at the United Nations General Assembly meeting earlier this week the president said that he would take over the oil ministry portfolio.

We will publish the names of the new ministers when they have been assigned to their ministries.
